Saturday night at The Shooting Gallery was a grand success. Shawn Barber was all smiles as friends from around the country gathered to celebrate his newest installment of the accomplished series, Tattooed Portraits – Snapshots.
In attendance were such legendary tattooists as George Campise, Mike Davis, Grime, and Henry Lewis. Not to mention the comedian Margaret Cho and artists like Isabel Samaras, Van Arno, Aaron Nagel, C3, Kevin Earl Taylor, Mike Giant, Nate Van Dyke, and Jeremy Fish. We were proud to host so many of our favorite individuals in one building and we thank you all for showing support. Enjoy this photo recap of the night.

Anniversary parties can be stuffy, nauseating, or fun depending on the host. We think The Shooting Gallery‘s 5 Year Anniversary was noteworthy, as did our friends at Vimby. The celebration (March 2008) included Joshua Petker‘s solo exhibition, Neon Black, and festivities ensued. We think Justin did a great job describing the gallery mission that we continue to uphold.

We were ecstatic to be chosen in the SF Gate‘s article, “Native Son in Torrid Affair with S.F.,” as one of the most appreciated parts of town. In the ranks with Palace of the Legion of Honor and Aquarius Records, we were flattered by these words of David Katznelson:
“Justin Giarla and Andres Guerrero are my favorite art curators, presenting both first-time artists and some of the biggest names (shout-out to Mike Davis and Ausgang!). With their film ‘New Brow,’ they have further defined the cutting-edge, street-smart, no-pomp scene they have been celebrating for years. Their art openings are the biggest blasts, attracting an amazing cross-section of enthusiasts, and for a new collector there are always reasonably priced pieces that would look great on any wall.”
Unfortunately Andres Guerrero is no longer with the gallery, but we enjoyed the feedback on “New Brow.” David seems to be the go-to man for any “best of”: we also made it onto this 2007 list by David in Arthur. We appreciate the continued support!
